Fire to Ice Glass is a small studio in Holt, Wiltshire, making fused glass jewellery and other decorative glass objects, to sell through local craft fairs. Set up in 2007, it is realisation of an ambition after a life long love affair with all types of glass.
Fire to Ice uses a mixture of plain and dichroic glass to produce beautiful and original pieces of jewellery.
The current range includes the following:
- Pendants
- Earrings
- Brooches
- HEBbead necklaces
- Children´s necklaces
And for the men, cufflinks and tie pins
The jewellery is distinctive, original and crafted with a passion for the qualities of glass.
What is dichroic glass?
Dichroic glass is a product of the space exploration industry of the 1950´s and 60´s and has properties very similar to those of a camera lens. It is made in a vacuum chamber where ultra thin layers of metallic oxides of three to five millionths of an inch, are evaporated onto a base sheet of glass. Although dichroic is taken from Greek meaning two colours and the eye sees a variety of hues, it is not the glass that is coloured. It is the glass reacting in the same way as optical filters, transmitting one colour while reflecting another that produces the array of vibrant colours.
What are HEBbeads?
HEBbeads are our version of beads. They are quirky, allow us to mix colours and glasses, no two are the same. Laced on leather thongs they appeal to both the young and the young at heart.
